Reims October 2019
A group of 9 members and guests lead by our Consult, George Bergier, attended the Chapitre des Vendanges at the Palais du Tau in Reims on Friday 11th October 2019.
It was an excellent event with 6 champagnes at the reception and a five course diner each accompanied by a quality champagne. All but 2 of the champagnes were served in magnums with 9 of the 11 being vintage champagnes.
The reception champagnes were;
Brice - Bouzy Grand Cru Vintage 2013
Drappier - Millesime Exception 2008
Grand Siecle - Laurent Perrier Iteration No. 22
Mailly Grand Cru - Millesime 1998
G.H.Mumm - Cuveee R.Lalou 1999

Each Vintage (the year of production) champagne, when poured, is introduced by the representative that Champagne House with lots of interesting facts about its production, blending, and bottling to create the best Vintage.

Reims 2018
A delegation of 5 from our Northern England chapter attended the investiture event in Reims on Friday 12th October. The event saw two of our committee members, Ross Kennedy & Darren Baddeley promoted to Chamberlain. It was an excellent evening of food and champagne with the latter being particularly excellent. 2018 - A great year for champagne!
Below is a link regarding the 2018 Champagne harvest including the opinions of several Chef du Caves which I thought may be of interest.
To quote the Chef du Caves of Gosset “we do not judge the future of a man when he is still in the belly of his mother!” although it sounds like it will be a great vintage. Looking forward to our dinners in 2028!

We are pleased to announce that at a ceremony in Manchester, held on Wednesday 12th November 2014, the Variety Children’s Charity awarded our Consul, George Bergier, the honour of appointment as a Legend of Industry 2014 paying a deserved tribute to his services to the Hospitality & Wine industry in the UK.
